Doesn’t sound like the menopause but you should get it checked out at your doctors. Are you underweight or on a strict diet? If you are that is why periods are irregular. I am 53 years old and currently going through the menopause and only problems I have are very irregular periods, they could be gone for a few months and then come back for a month and nothing again for 6 months.

Although I personally knew one woman who went through menopause in her twenties, I can’t say that this is what you’re experiencing. Generally speaking, when going through menopause, periods get further apart until there may be only 2 or 3 in a year, then 2, then none. They decrease.

As for you, you may be having hormone issues but I couldn’t speculate as to the cause. There are so many reasons why this happens. Significant weight gain or loss, over-exercise, poor nutrition (or a diet too high in carbohydrates), smoking, drug use, caffeine, excessive alcohol use (interfers with how the liver metabolizes estrogen and progesterone), eating disorders, increased stress, polycystic ovarian syndrome/estrogen dominance, uterine abnormalities (fibroids/cysts/polyps/endometriosis), hormonal imbalance related to perimenopause, medications, chemotherapy, recent childbirth, miscarriage, or D&C and breastfeeding. I suggest you see your OB/Gyn and investigate this.

I am 39 years old, got my 1st period at 9 and around 16 they started to play tricks on me (like you). I started to feel hot/sweaty all the time and my periods were crazy – twice a month or skip 2-3 months.

When I got married at 21, we waited a year before we tried to conceive. With no luck, my OB/GYN started Clomid (medication to increase eggs released) and nothing happened. Then, he referred me to a Fertility Specialist and I went through a series of blood tests. When the results came back I was SHOCKED!

I was diagnosed with POF – Premature Ovarian Failure. I ran out of eggs and had no chance of getting pregnant on my own. The only option available to me was using donor eggs with IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization). My sister (best friend now) donated her eggs. The 1st try of IVF resulted in Zero pregnancies. The 2nd resulted in 1 healthy baby girl and 3rd try 1 healthy baby boy.

I wouldn’t mess around writing on this site, the best way to find out what’s going on with your body is to see a OB/GYN and have them test your FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and LH (Luteinizing Hormone) levels.

    Good Luck.
