Only time wil tell..there is no way to predict. 44 is not too early.

No one knows when menopause will start for anyone.

The earlier you started your period, the earlier you will start menopause. Yes, you will start early.

That depends on your granmother as well. My mom, both my aunts and my grandmother all had histerectomys at or around their 30′s. The docs told me that I will most likely have the same thing. But I am 37 now and have had nothing like that done. Everything is fine so far. It can go either way. Listen to your body, keep regular check ups. Play it by ear.

Maybe maybe not. The genetics of your mom say a lot, but there is also your fathers side to consider. Every generation tends to be different also. And what the heck there is nothing wrong with going through menopause at age 44, what a relief that is for many women. I sure wouldn’t worry about it as nature takes it own course and there is nothing you can do about it. Relax and just enjoy life!

It is possible. There are factors other than heredity that influence menopause, but I’d guess you will be one of the youngest of those women racing toward the frozen food section in the grocery shop.

I’m a nurse, but my specialty is not GYN. Therefore, I am speaking as an educated lay person.

Considering your family history, it would seem likely that you would have an early menopause.

I saw on TV today that women who start their periods early, and 9 is very early, or who start menopause early, have an increased risk of breast cancer. I would encourage you to start getting mammograms early–don’t wait until age 40 for your first one, which is the recommendation from the American Cancer Society.

    Have a great life.
